If you’ve started planning your destination wedding, chances are you’ve already pictured it…
Toes in the sand. Ocean in the background. Sunset hitting just right as you say your vows.
And listen—I get it. That vision is why most couples come to us in the first place.
But here’s where things start to shift a little bit…
The venue you choose is going to impact everything. Not just how your wedding looks, but how it feels, how it flows, how your guests experience it—and yes, how much you end up spending.
And this is where we see couples get tripped up. Because it’s really easy to fall in love with an idea on Instagram without fully understanding what comes with it.
Take beach weddings, for example.
They’re beautiful. No question. But what most couples don’t realize is everything that has to go into making that “effortless” look actually work. If you’re picturing a long aisle in the sand… that’s a build. If you want guests seated comfortably… that’s more setup. If you’re wearing heels… now we’re talking platforms, flooring, logistics.
And that’s before we even get into things like wind, heat, or the fact that not every beach is created equally. Same destination, same stretch of coastline, completely different experience depending on the property and time of year.
Does that mean don’t do a beach wedding? Not at all.
It just means you want to go into it understanding what you’re signing up for.
Now on the flip side, we’ve been seeing more couples lean into rooftops—and I get why. The views are insane. The photos? Unreal.
But rooftops come with their own personality too.
Everything is amplified up there. The breeze feels stronger, the heat hits differently, and if the weather shifts even a little, you’re going to feel it. It’s also one of those things couples don’t always think about until it’s too late—accessibility. Elevators, stairs, guests who may not be able to make that climb… it matters.
Then there’s the spaces that, honestly, I think don’t get talked about enough—garden terraces, restaurants, beach clubs.
These are the ones where things start to feel a little more balanced.
A garden venue gives you that natural beauty without being fully exposed. You get shade, you get greenery, you get a built-in atmosphere that doesn’t require you to start from zero. But even there, you’ve got to think about things like lighting at night or how private the space actually is.
Restaurants are one of my favorite “sleeper” options. They already look good. They already have the ambiance, the furniture, the lighting… and most importantly, the kitchen is right there. That alone can make a huge difference in the overall experience.
And then there are beach clubs.
If you want my honest take? This is where a lot of the magic is happening right now.
They give you that indoor-outdoor feel, they’re usually designed really well from the start, and when you rent it out, it’s yours. Private, elevated, and already halfway to the finish line in terms of setup. Yes, there’s usually a fee attached—but when you compare it to what it takes to build out other venues, it often balances out in a really smart way.
Now, for couples who are thinking, “I want something completely different,” off-site venues open up a whole new world.
More flexibility. More personality. Sometimes even better pricing depending on how it’s structured.
But now we’re talking logistics. Transportation, timing, making sure your guests are taken care of from start to finish. It’s absolutely doable—you just need to plan it the right way.
At the end of the day, this is the part I really want couples to understand…
There’s no “best” venue.
There’s only the one that fits your vision, your priorities, and your group.
That’s why one of the first questions we always ask is simple:
Are you toes in the sand… rooftop views… garden vibes… something completely different?
Because once we know that, everything else starts to fall into place.
And if you get that part right, the rest of your wedding becomes a whole lot easier to build around.
